Create a Living Legacy
Walk through a redwood grove and you can't help but experience the tranquil
solitude and sense of awe that these ancient and majestic trees inspire.
Many feel that there is no more fitting way to honor and memorialize those
they love and respect than with a gift that preserves these magnificent
redwoods for future generations.
Dedicating a redwood grove through a gift to Save-the-Redwoods League
ensures that the beauty and grandeur of the redwoods will continue to
inspire future generations, while setting aside a special place in the
forest where you and your family may savor the trees and the rivers and
wildlife that surround them.
A Gift from the Heart
In 1921—soon after Save-the-Redwoods League was founded— the League
inaugurated its honor and memorial grove program. The first large gift
to purchase and dedicate a redwood grove was given in honor of the first
American officer of high rank to fall in World War I. A cathedral-like
grove of ancient redwoods was purchased on the banks of the Eel River
in the heart of the redwood region. Today, nearly 1,000 honor and memorial
groves have been established in California redwood state parks and reserves
and Redwood National Park, and more are added each year.
Dedicating Your Grove
You may personally visit and select from the available groves in over
20 redwood parks. Maps with the exact location of the groves are available.
League staff or park rangers are also happy to accompany you on your visit.
Those unable to visit the redwoods may ask the League to designate a grove
for them.
Donations vary, based on the size and age of the trees, density of forest
cover, acreage, accessibility and location. Grove gifts, which begin at
$25,000, may be made in a lump sum, over a period of three years, or by
bequest or other form of planned gift. In many parks, a sign bearing the
name of the honoree may be placed in the grove.
Gifts to dedicate a redwood grove support land acquisition, reforestation,
education, redwood research and other programmatic work.
A Choice of Locations
Magnificent redwood groves are available for dedication as a memorial
or honor grove all along the north coast of California, from Big Sur to
the Oregon border. Some have small creeks winding quietly through the
trees. Others have breathtaking views of the Pacific. Many are easily
accessible by trail and others are tucked into the far reaches of the
parks.
