An excellent example of a magnificent coast redwood grove towering over a carpet of beautiful ferns, Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve is one of the more remote redwood parks, making it the perfect place to recharge yourself by experiencing ancient redwoods in solitude.
The Reserve shelters one of the region's largest remaining stands of old-growth redwoods, as well as one of the world's tallest trees.
Since 1918, Save the Redwoods League has been a partner in protecting land in and around Montgomery Woods State Reserve. Since the Reserve was created in 1945, we have made many strategic land acquisitions to expand its boundaries and buffer the ancient grove. In 2005, League members helped purchase three adjacent parcels to more than double the Reserve's size to 2,300 acres.
Thanks to generous donations from individual supporters, we reached our December 31, 2007, campaign goal of matching a $200,000 challenge grant to support an expansion of Montgomery Woods.

Save the Redwoods League plans include partnering with the Reserve to add interpretive walking trails, signage, maps and improved parking and picnic areas
