Groves remain in Exceptional Drought heading into wildfire season
The latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor show that the drought situation in California’s giant sequoia range remains unchanged from when we last looked about a month ago. Nearly the entire range, 99.9%, falls under the most severe drought category, Exceptional Drought. This certainly increases concerns about wildfire, particularly the high-severity type that has taken a toll on the groves in the last few years.
